Friedrich Merz is a prominent German politician and lawyer, currently serving as the Fraktionsvorsitzender of the CDU/CSU-Bundestagsfraktion and Vorsitzender of CDU Deutschlands since January 2022. Merz has been a member of the Deutscher Bundestag since September 2021, representing the Hochsauerland constituency in North Rhine-Westphalia, and has previously held a similar position from 1994 to 2009. In addition to their political roles, Merz has extensive legal experience as a Rechtsanwalt since 1986 and has held significant positions such as Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender for companies like WEPA SE and Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. Merz received a Zweites juristisches Staatsexamen in Rechtswissenschaften from Universität des Saarlandes and an Erstes juristisches Staatsexamen in Rechts- und Staatswissenschaften from The University of Bonn.
