Mark Mortenson

Mark Mortenson is a graduate of Alfred University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics and a Bachelor of Science in ceramic engineering. He also holds a Master of Science degree in materials science from the Pennsylvania State University and a Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University. Mr. Mortenson is a co-founder of Clene Nanomedicine, Inc (“Clene”) and currently holds the position of chief science officer. Clene is the first to discover that naturally occurring cellular metabolic pathways can be assisted by catalysis mechanisms driven by unique metallic nanocrystals.

Clene is currently pursuing a first-in-class remyelination cure for Multiple Sclerosis. Clene is also working on neuroprotection pathways to provide cures for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (i.e., Lou Gehrig’s disease) and Parkinson’s disease. He is the author of 15 publications and a named inventor on 27 issued US patents, with more than 50 patent pending applications.

Mr. Mortenson is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Ceramic Society, American Chemical Society, American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association, Women in Defense (Mid Atlantic Chapter), and the Virginia Bar Association.

Mr. Mortenson transitioned to the Cecil College Board of Trustees in 2015 from the Cecil College Foundation, where he served since 2011.
