Vice President Of Economic Development at Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance

Ron Corbett's work experience includes serving as the Vice President of Economic Development and Business Retention and Expansion Strategist at the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance since 2018. Ron has focused on economic development, resulting in approximately $375 million in new capital investment in Cedar Rapids despite challenges such as COVID-19, the derecho, and social unrest.

Before that, Corbett was the Mayor of the City of Cedar Rapids from 2010 to 2017. Ron led the community through recovery from a historic flood, secured flood protection funding, and hired the City Manager, Jeff Pomeranz.

Corbett also worked at CRST The Transportation Solution, Inc., where they held positions such as Vice President of Human Resources and Vice President of Customer Services. Ron developed the Book of Leaders initiative, raised funds for employees affected by the flood of 2008, and received multiple awards for meeting customer delivery expectations.

As the Chief Executive Officer of the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce from 1999 to 2005, Corbett led efforts to change the form of government in Cedar Rapids and successfully passed a major bond issue for school rebuilding.

Earlier in their career, they served as a Legislator and State Representative in the Iowa Legislature from 1987 to 1999, where they became the youngest elected Speaker of the House of Representatives in the state's history. Ron received awards from various organizations for their service.

In their role as Speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999, Corbett passed significant legislation, including the Children's Health Insurance Program (Hawki) and the Community, Attraction, and Tourism (CAT) program.

Ron Corbett attended Cornell College from an unknown start year until 1983, where they pursued Special Studies. The field of study during their time at Cornell College is not specified.
