Noubar Afeyan

Noubar Afeyan is a highly accomplished entrepreneur and business leader with over twenty-two years of experience in founding, funding, and developing first-in-category life sciences companies. Noubar is the founder and CEO of Flagship Pioneering, a venture firm that conceives, creates, resources, and develops scientific ventures with the goal of transforming human health and sustainability. Since its launch in 2000, the firm has applied a unique hypothesis-driven innovation process to originate and foster more than 100 scientific ventures, resulting in over $25 billion in aggregate value. To date, Flagship has attracted $2.4 billion of aggregate capital commitments, of which over $1.3 billion has been deployed toward the founding and growth of its pioneering companies alongside $8.3 billion of follow-on investments from other institutions.

In addition to their work with Flagship Pioneering, Afeyan is also a visiting lecturer at Harvard Business School, a member of the board of trustees for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the chairman and co-founder of Moderna Therapeutics, Rubius Therapeutics, Omega Therapeutics, Generate Biomedicines, Inc., and Indigo. Noubar is also a board member for Cellarity and the Aurora Prize and a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra Board of Overseers.

Noubar Afeyan received a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1987. Noubar received their undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from McGill University in 1983.
