Finn Slattery

Finn is originally from London. He went on to study his Marine Science bachelor’s degree in Tampa, Florida where he swam competitively at collegiate level. Afterwards, he came back to the UK to study an MSc in Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Edinburgh. He was a part of the Edinburgh iGEM and iDEC 2021 competitions where his team aimed to increase the degradation and extraction efficiency of recalcitrant biomaterials. His project focused on increasing the biological extraction efficiency of chitin from crab shell waste by directly evolving the enzymes involved. He has a continued passion for the circular bioeconomy and sustainability.
