Clinical Care Coordinator For Gender Affirmative Care at Center For Discovery

Emmy Johnson, MSW, LCSW has a diverse range of work experience in the field of social work. Emmy most recently worked at the Center for Discovery, where they served as a Clinical Care Coordinator for Gender Affirmative Care, providing consultation and support to treatment teams of TGNC and questioning patients. Emmy also presented trainings on working with TGNC patients both within and outside the organization, and participated in individual and family therapy sessions as an advocate and consultant for gender identity-related issues. Prior to that, Emmy worked as a Coordinator for Gender Affirming Care at the same organization.

Emmy's previous experience includes working at Carolina House Eating Disorder Treatment Programs as a Clinical Therapist, where they led DBT groups, provided individual and family therapy, and coordinated transitions to treatment and lower levels of care. Emmy also worked as a Clinical Social Work Intern at the same organization.

Emmy has also worked at Townsend Bertram & Co as a Sales Associate, where they assisted customers and performed various labor-related tasks. At Carolina Partners in Mental HealthCare, PLLC, they served as a Gender and Sexual Diversity Initiative Program Coordinator and Assistant to the Psychotherapy Director, updating resource lists, facilitating trainings, and providing support to the director. Emmy also worked as a Companion and Crisis Response Assistant at the Orange County Rape Crisis Center.

Additionally, Emmy worked as a Residential Adviser at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, organizing community events and promoting a safe and inclusive environment for residents. Emmy also gained experience as a Camp Counselor at Sanborn Western Camps/Colorado Outdoor Education Center, leading activities and supervising campers.

Emmy's earliest work experience was as an Intern at the House Budget Committee Minority Staff, where they conducted research, wrote memos, and attended hearings and meetings to inform staff members.

Emmy Johnson received their Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy and Women and Gender Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2015. Emmy then went on to pursue a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the same university, graduating in 2019. Prior to their undergraduate studies, Emmy attended Montgomery Blair High School from 2008 to 2012.

In terms of additional certifications, Emmy obtained their Wilderness First Responder certification from NOLS Wilderness Medicine in April 2016. Emmy also completed the Stewards of Children training program offered by Darkness to Light in 2014. Emmy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, having obtained their license from the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board in January 2022. Emmy is also licensed by the Virginia Board of Social Work, which they obtained in November 2021. In addition, Emmy holds a certification in First Aid/CPR from the American Red Cross, which they obtained in May 2020. Prior to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Emmy was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate, a certification they received from the NC Social Work Certification and Licensing Board in May 2019.
