Afra Anika Islam is a research consultant in the Remote Sensing Division at the Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) since November 2023. Prior experience includes serving as a junior coordinator in Planning & Business Development at Professional Associates Limited from August to October 2023, and working as an urban planning facilitator for the Climate Resilient Inclusive Smart Cities project at GIZ Bangladesh in April 2023, where responsibilities involved facilitating public discussions for the Satkhira Master Plan. Additionally, Afra completed an internship at ADD International in August 2022, focusing on survey data analysis for the Inclusion Works Project. Afra holds a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, completed in March 2023, and attended Cantonment Public School and College Rangpur and Thakurgaon Government Girls' High School prior to higher education.

The Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) is a center of excellence situated in Dhaka, the Capital City of Bangladesh which is located in South Asia. The working domain of CEGIS span over Resource Management Planning (Natural and Intellectual), System Development, Capacity Building and Research activities. A Public Trust and center of excellence established by the Government of Bangladesh under the Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR); A "Not-for-Profit" organization guided by a Board of Trustees headed by the Secretary of the MoWR; An entity strengthened with an organized pool of experts and resources to serve humanity by excelling in the state-of-the-art technology in resource management planning, system development, study and research and capacity building; An organization aimed at achieving green environment, blue water and balanced development for better well-being of the nation. While Bangladesh is making great strides towards holistic and sustainable development, CEGIS has been relentlessly trying since the inception of its predecessor EGIS in 1995 to support the country’s efforts for sustainable socio-economic development by providing scientific, technological and socio-economic know-how. CEGIS is a scientifically independent organisation and performs integrated environmental analysis using technologies like GIS, RS, IT and databases. It provides solutions to issues and problems in a wide range of sectors, such as – but not limited to – water, land, agriculture, meteorology, forestry, fisheries, morphology, ecology, environment, climate change, archeology, socio-economy, power, water supply and sanitation, transportation, infrastructures and disasters. CEGIS has eleven separate technical Divisions each of which tries to meet the needs of its clients in national and international arena. It has highly qualified, experienced and multi-disciplinary groups of scientific, technical and socio-economic experts.
