John Dugan has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. John is currently serving as the Co-Founder & Chief Research & Development Officer at the Center for Expanding Leadership & Opportunity, where they have been working since 2023. Prior to this, John was associated with The Aspen Institute from 2017 to 2023, holding various roles including Executive Director, Youth Leadership Programs, and Director, Program Quality, Design, & Assessment. Before their time at The Aspen Institute, John worked as a Professor at Loyola University Chicago from 2007 to 2017, starting as an Assistant Professor and advancing to the positions of Associate Professor and Professor. John began their academic career as the Program Coordinator for Leadership Development at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2005 and then worked as the NCLP Coordinator at the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs from 2004 to 2005. Prior to that, John served as the Coordinator of Student Leadership Development at the University of Nevada Las Vegas from 2001 to 2004.
John Dugan holds a Ph.D. in Counseling & Personnel Services from the University of Maryland, which they obtained from 2004 to 2008. Prior to this, they earned a Master's degree in College Student Personnel from the University of Maryland from 1999 to 2001. John completed their undergraduate studies at John Carroll University, where they received a Bachelor's degree in Communications & Spanish between 1995 and 1999.
