Center for Human Services opened in 1970 as Head Rest, a drop-in center for youth who needed support.  Now, with over 250 paid staff, at least 100 volunteers, and operating budget of 12 million dollars, CHS serves over 20,000 clients a year through programs in the areas of shelter, juvenile justice services, mental health counseling, school-based services, family resource centers, and substance abuse prevention and treatment. Our services continue to support the youth and families of Stanislaus County.

The Program and Counseling Team at the Center for Human Services (CHS) provides a wide range of support services to the youth and families of Stanislaus County. This team includes specialists and counselors focused on youth shelter coordination, clinical mental health services, mobile crisis intervention, family support, substance use disorder (SUD) counseling, and community advocacy. Their goal is to address immediate needs and support long-term well-being through comprehensive programs tailored to both crisis situations and ongoing challenges.
