Senior Director Of Legal Strategies, Research And Innovation at Center for Reproductive Rights

Maria Alejandra Cardenas has a strong background in legal strategies and human rights, with a focus on reproductive rights. Maria Alejandra has held several senior director roles at the Center for Reproductive Rights, where they led the development of institutional level technical strategies, ensured legal coherency across the organization, and developed innovative legal tools and resources. Prior to that, Cardenas worked as a Regional Legal Director at Women's Link Worldwide, coordinating and supervising legal strategies. Maria Alejandra also gained experience at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, where they drafted decisions on human rights cases and advised commissioners. Additionally, Cardenas has worked as a legal adviser, researcher, and instructor in various organizations and institutions.

Maria Alejandra Cardenas graduated from the Universidad Externado de Colombia in 2005 with a degree in Law, focusing on Public Interest Law. In 2006, they attended the American University Washington College of Law for a Summer Academy, where they studied Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law. In 2008, they pursued further education at Harvard Law School, obtaining an LL.M degree in International Legal Studies in 2009.
