Scott Harrison has been working in the field of HIV/AIDS advocacy and care for over two decades. Scott started their career as an insurance and public benefits advocate and coordinator at the Pittsburgh Aids Task Force in 2014. In this role, they were responsible for developing relationships with government and non-profit agencies, researching and training agency staff on changes in public policy around HIV/AIDS, and coordinating education for agency staff and partnering agencies on Medicare, Medicaid, ADAP (SPBP), and private insurance options for clients.
In 2016, Harrison became the director at Central Outreach and Advocacy Center, where they continue to work tirelessly to help those living with HIV/AIDS. Scott has established an inter-agency, community-based and client ACA insurance assistance program, and has assisted more than 200 clients in getting assistance to apply for Medicare and Medicaid. Scott has also collaborated with other agencies to educate, advocate and assist clients in applying for benefits, including private health insurance in the Affordable Care Act Marketplace, Medical Assistance (Medicaid), the Pennsylvania Department of Health's Special Pharmaceutical Benefit Program (SPBP, part of the national AIDS Drug Assistance Program or ADAP) and Pennsylvania PACE (Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly).
Harrison's dedication to their work has made him a respected leader in the HIV/AIDS community, and they continue to fight for better access to care and benefits for those living with the disease.
Scott Harrison's educational career began with him initiating theological studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. Scott then transferred to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary where they obtained their Master of Arts in Theology with a focus in Christian theology on Social Ethics, Religious Education and Missiology. Finally, they obtained their B.A. from California State University, Long Beach in German language & culture with emphases in cultural & linguistic anthropology, Spanish & Russian.
