Mònica Morales

Director, Core Technologies Programme at Centre for Genomic Regulation

Mònica Morales is the director of core facilities at Centre for Genomic Regulation. Mònica previously worked as a research associate at Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), where they coordinated a project funded by Asociación española contra el cáncer (AECC) to study the function and therapeutic potential of the metastastasis suppressor gene RARRES3. Mònica also prepared annual reports on the status of the project and performed the training and direction of the technician working under their supervision.

Morales also worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York from October 2002 to February 2007. During their time there, they collaborated with several hospitals that provided pleural effusion samples from cancer patients and conducted the contract project “Evaluation of Cox2 inhibitors in breast cancer lung metastasis” reached with Palau Pharma, S.A.

Before their work at MSKCC, Morales was a PhD student at The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) from September 1998 to December 1998. Mònica then transferred to University of Barcelona, where they completed their PhD in 2002.

Mònica Morales has a Licentiate degree in Pharmacy from the Facultat de Farmacia at the University of Barcelona. Mònica also has a Diplomate degree in Optometry from the same school. In addition, they have participated in an Undergraduate Research Project in Pharmacy at Uppsala University.
