Mwangelwa Mubiana-Mbewe

Director, Paediatrics & Child Health at Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ)

Mwangelwa Mubiana-Mbewe BSc, MBChB, MMed (Paediatrics & Child Health), MBA, has worked for CIDRZ since 2005, being part of the team that pioneered the HIV programme, in particular, paediatric and adolescent HIV. As director for the Paediatric HIV Treatment and Prevention programme under the PEPFAR/CDC funded HIV programme, she has gained vast experience in HIV and PMTCT program planning and implementation in the public sector in Zambia. She has worked with government structures from national to health facility levels. Her expertise includes designing and implementing strategies to improve paediatric and adolescent HIV and PMTCT programme outcomes. She has experience in health worker capacity building through trainings and clinical mentorship.

Dr Mubiana is a member of the national HIV technical working groups through which she participates in reviewing and adapting WHO guidelines at various time-points as they evolve, developing and updating national PMTCT, paediatric and adolescent HIV guidelines and training packages and developing national mentorship packages. Her research experience includes international clinical trials when she served as Investigator of Records under the IMPAACT network studies (2012-2015) and implementation science. She has previously served as honorary lecturer for the University of Zambia, School of Medicine in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.
