Peter Hughes

Peter Hughes PSM is a Fellow at the Centre for Policy Development since 2014, with prior experience as a Visitor at the School of Demography at The Australian National University from October 2011 to December 2018 and at the Regulatory Institutions Network. Peter has held senior positions in the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship from 1979 to 2011, including Deputy Secretary, and has worked in various policy roles across Australian Government Departments from 1973 to 1979. Educational qualifications include a B.A. (Hons) in History from The University of Queensland and training from the International Institute of Humanitarian Law. Areas of interest encompass global, regional, and national governance of migration, as well as policies related to migration, refugees, asylum, citizenship, integration, and multiculturalism.
