Joe Surber

Chief Medical Officer at Centricity Research

Joe Surber has a diverse work experience in the medical field. Joe started their career as a Family Practice Residency Faculty and Associate Director of Hospital Medicine at Columbus Regional Hospital from 2004 to 2005. Joe then worked as a Hospitalist at St. Francis Hospital from 2005 to 2016. During this time, they also owned a business called LIF Investments from 2008 to 2011. From 2011 to 2021, Joe served as the Director of Hospital Medicine at Southland Hospital. Joe also took on the role of Chief Operating Officer at Southland Hospitalist Group from 2014 to 2021, where they were responsible for overseeing multiple hospitalist programs. In 2013, they became the ICU Medical Director at Medical Center Barbour and later took on the role of Chief of Staff from 2016 to 2018. From 2008 to 2011, Joe worked as the Chief Medical Officer at Institute for the Advancement of Clinical Trials and Southeast Regional Research Group, which are clinical research sites. Joe also owned SERRG, Inc., a clinical research management firm, during the same period. Most recently, they held the position of Chief Medical Officer at INSTITUTE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF CLINICAL TRIALS DBA IACT HEALTH from 2021 to 2021 and is currently serving as the Chief Medical Officer at Centricity Research.

Joe Surber completed their education at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, where they earned a D.O. degree in Medicine from 1997 to 2001. Prior to that, they attended Georgia Southern University from 1991 to 1995, obtaining a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology. In addition to their educational background, Joe Surber also holds various certifications. Joe became a Fellow of Hospital Medicine and obtained the certification of Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine from the American Academy of Family Physicians in 2015 and 2011, respectively. Joe received the title of Senior Fellow of Hospital Medicine from the Society of Hospital Medicine in 2020. Joe Surber also became a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians in 2009. Adding to their certifications, they obtained the Certified Principal Investigator (CPI®) certification from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals in April 2022.
