Marcel L. Aschenbrenner has a wealth of experience in the legal field, starting with their role as an Associate at Strohal & Kretschmer Law Firm. During their time there, they were a resident lawyer responsible for the Singapore office and advised on investments in Southeast Asia. Marcel's next position was at Borealis in 2006, where they served as a Senior Corporate Counsel. Here, they became the primary contact for the legal department of the business units. Marcel L. played a significant role as the lead in-house counsel for negotiation in the Borouge 3 joint venture with ADNOC in Abu Dhabi. Marcel L. also supported the General Counsel in strategic planning, budgeting, and managing the legal function.
In 2012, Marcel became the Associate General Counsel at Borealis. In this position, they managed a team of two lawyers and two paralegals as the deputy to the General Counsel. Marcel L. provided legal counsel to the Corporate Strategy and Group Development team, supervised the company secretary function, and managed contract management.
Finally, Marcel joined CEPSA in September 2013 as the Senior Corporate Counsel for Petrochemicals and Trading. In September 2014, they were promoted to the role of Lead Counsel for M&A. Throughout their time at CEPSA, they have been instrumental in providing legal expertise in both the corporate and trading sectors.
Marcel L. Aschenbrenner's education history includes a Bachelor's degree in Chinese Studies (Sinology) from the University of Vienna, which they obtained from 1988 to 2002. Marcel L. also pursued Chinese Language Studies (Sinology) at the National Taiwan Normal University from 1993 to 1994. Marcel holds a Magister iuris (Austrian law degree) from the University of Vienna, achieved from 1988 to 1993. Additionally, they studied law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid from 1990 to 1991. Marcel obtained two additional certifications: they became a Solicitor of England & Wales (non-practising) through the Law Society of England & Wales in 2004, and they passed the Austrian bar exam (Rechtsanwaltsprüfung) in 2001, granted by the Rechtsanwaltskammer Wien.
