R. Alan Shibley has a diverse work experience. R. Alan started their career in 1982 as a Sports Information Director at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and held this role until 1992. In 1983, they began working as a Freelance Performer at Al Shibley and continued this role for an unspecified timeframe. From 1992 to 1999, they served as the VP of Communications at the NY Special Olympics. In 1999, they joined the Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State as the VP of Communications, a position they currently hold. In 2019, they briefly worked as a Consultant for CP of NYS before transitioning to a mostly retired role starting in July 2020.

R. Alan Shibley obtained their Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Liberal Arts from Hudson Valley Community College from 1969 to 1971. R. Alan then pursued Mass Communication and earned their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Emerson College from 1971 to 1973.
