Sharath Gururaj has extensive work experience in various roles and companies. Sharath started their career as an Intern at Defence Research and Development Organisation, where they developed a "Radar Target Simulator" for the Ministry of Defense. Sharath then worked at Infosys as a Software Engineer and later as a Team Lead, where they contributed to the development of a 3-tier J2EE web application and received recognition for their programming skills.
Sharath then worked at Columbia University as a Teaching Assistant and later as a Research Assistant, where they updated the solution manual for the third edition of the "Introduction To Algorithms" book. Sharath also collaborated with the senior management team and implemented industry best practices for software development.
Sharath then joined Google as a Software Engineer before working at EdLab, Teachers College Columbia University as a Solutions Architect. In this role, they evaluated new technologies, aligned processes with best practices, and pioneered Test Driven Development. Sharath used various technologies such as Python/Django, MySQL, Jquery/AngularJS/HTML5, and deployed applications on Amazon Web Services.
After that, Sharath worked at Coverity as a Senior Software Development Engineer, where they architectured and implemented the web application for the Coverity static analysis tool. Sharath also deployed the application on the cloud to enhance accessibility for clients.
Their most recent position was at Flipkart, where they served as an SDE4 and tech lead in the Big Data Platform team. Sharath handled massive amounts of data and scaled up Apache Kafka to handle real-time ingestion of events. Sharath also contributed to Apache Kafka and developed a validation framework and a tool for versioned schema management.
Currently, Sharath is working as the VP of Engineering (India Head) at Cermati.com, where they are responsible for talent acquisition and building the Data Platform team.
Sharath Gururaj completed their Executive General Management Program at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore from 2020 to 2021. Prior to this, they attended the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in 2018, where they pursued a School of continuing education program focused on Deep Learning - Theory and Practice.
In 2008, Sharath Gururaj obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science from Columbia University, which they completed in 2010. Their undergraduate studies were completed at B. M. S. College of Engineering from 2000 to 2004, where they earned a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering.
Additionally, Sharath obtained the Sun Certified Java Professional certification from Sun Microsystems in August 2008.
