John Kafka founded Chamberlin in Houston, Texas in March of 1978. He has worked persistently over the years to create clients and project opportunities that turned a small waterproofing shop into a flourishing building envelope contracting business that now employs over 600 people. His passion for performing quality roofing and waterproofing installations safely with a spirit of teamwork and cooperation permeates the company.
John has served on boards and committees of many professional organizations including American Subcontractors Association (ASA) Houston, Associated General Contractors (AGC) Houston, Building Owners and Manager’s Association (BOMA) and was a founding member of Institute of Real Estate Management’s “Friends of IREM” program. He is also a co-founder of Texans for Sensible Immigration Policy (TXSIP) which worked with policymakers in an attempt to find a practical approach to immigration reform laws.
A commitment to the community is part of Chamberlin’s and John’s core values. As such, John currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Catholic Charities, Houston-Galveston Diocese, whose main focus is providing help and creating hope in geographic areas of the diocese most downtrodden. He also serves on the Board of Directors for The WorkFaith Connection, a Christ-centered non-profit that transforms people into a new life through assistance and skills to find and maintain gainful employment.
Under John’s leadership over the years, Chamberlin has invested heavily in both safety and craft training and has become known as the industry leader for their expertise and integrity. “Safety, Quality and Teamwork” has become the company mantra, which has resulted in more and more clients making Chamberlin their preferred vendor for building envelope contracting services.
