Yu Yao

Yu (Sandy) Yao currently serves as the Chief Legal Officer and Board Secretary at the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network, overseeing the legal functions supporting the organization's regional Biohubs and the Imaging Institute since February 2024. Prior to this, Yu Yao was the Senior Director of Legal for Product, Privacy, and Intellectual Property at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, leading the data and AI policy initiatives from July 2021. Previous experience includes a tenure at LinkedIn, where Yu Yao held various legal roles, including Senior Managing Product and Privacy Counsel, focusing on global content policies and compliance issues. Yu Yao began legal career as a Technology Transactions Associate at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati and worked as a Technology Specialist at Occhiuti Rohlicek & Tsao LLP. Educational credentials include a JD from Stanford Law School, a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Tsinghua University.
