Theofanis Karaletsos

Theofanis Karaletsos is an accomplished professional in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence, currently serving as the Head of AI - Science at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative since February 2024. Previously, Karaletsos held the position of Vice President of Advanced ML at insitro from November 2021 to November 2023, where responsibilities included advancing AI/ML methods for drug discovery and contributing to the company's computational research culture. Also at insitro, Karaletsos led ML initiatives as Vice President of Data Science and Machine Learning, focusing on improving causal understanding of disease. Prior roles include Staff Research Scientist at Meta, where leadership of the Uncertainty team was a key responsibility, and Senior Research Scientist at Uber, co-founding Uber AI Labs. Earlier experience includes positions at Geometric Intelligence, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. Theofanis Karaletsos holds a Diplom degree in Bioinformatics from the Technical University of Munich.
