Honghao Tan has a diverse work experience in the automotive industry. Honghao started as a Research Assistant at The University of Toledo in 2003 and worked there until 2006. Honghao then worked as a Project Engineer at Wipro Technologies in 2007, where they developed steering angle control algorithms for autonomous lane centering and lane changing. Later in 2007, they joined General Motors as a Control Algorithm Engineer, focusing on designing powertrain algorithms and software for hybrid vehicles. Honghao worked on platforms such as the Chevy 2-Mode Tahoe, Volt, and eAssistant Buick. From 2011 to 2012, they worked as a Powertrain System Manager at CODA Automotive, Inc., where they launched the Drive Line Control Module for the CODA 1.0 Electrical sedan. Honghao also managed the sourcing of DLCM, motors, and inverter suppliers. In 2012, they joined Magna Electronics as a System Engineer on Active Safety. There, they were involved in the introduction of the Traffic Jam Assist feature, composed software interface specifications, and launched Lane Keeping Assistant features for vehicles such as the 2016 Grand Cherokee and 2017 Pacifica. Honghao also led engineering communication with OEMs and pursued new business opportunities. From 2015 to 2018, they worked at HARMAN International as a Principle Engineer, CoC ADAS, where they were responsible for various ADAS functions. Since 2018, they have been working at Changan US R&D Center as a Principal Engineer.

Honghao Tan obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Harbin Engineering University from 1993 to 1997. Honghao then pursued a PhD in Modeling and Control of shape memory alloy from The University of Toledo from 2003 to 2006. Additionally, they hold a Master's degree from Guangxi University, although the specific dates of enrollment are unknown. Honghao Tan also has several certifications, including "C++: Advanced Topics" from LinkedIn (obtained in December 2022), "A Crash Course in Data Science" from Coursera Course Certificates (obtained in October 2017), "CANape Advanced" from Vector (obtained in November 2013), and "Automotive Functional Safety Professional" from TUV (obtained in August 2011).
