Professorin Andrea Roemmele holds the positions of Vice President and Dean at the Hertie School since January 2010, overseeing the Executive Education sector which features over 100 international projects. In addition, Roemmele serves as Director of Executive Education at 365 Sherpas and is a member of the Advisory Council for ARD, where a quarterly democracy report is produced. Other roles include advisory council member for Jugend debattiert, Chair of the University Council at SRH Hochschule Heidelberg, and Thomas Mann Fellow for 2024 at Villa Aurora & Thomas Mann House e.V. Previously, educational contributions were made as a Fulbright Distinguished Chair at UC Santa Barbara and as Professor at both International University in Germany and Universität Mannheim, while also involved in research and teaching projects. Roemmele's extensive academic background is supported by degrees in Political Science from Freie Universität Berlin, Heidelberg University, and San Francisco State University, as well as a Habilitation from Freie Universität Berlin.

The work of the Hertie Foundation focuses on two key issues: brain research and strengthening democracy. The foundation’s programmes and initiatives provide best-practice examples and inspiration within these areas. In order to act freely and put our founder’s intentions into practice using contemporary methods, the Hertie Foundation generally runs its own projects, but it also provides funding support. The focus is always on people and on making tangible improvements to their living conditions. Die Arbeit der Hertie-Stiftung konzentriert sich auf zwei Leitthemen: Gehirn erforschen und Demokratie stärken. Die Programme und Initiativen der Stiftung setzen modellhafte Impulse innerhalb dieser Themen. Um frei zu agieren und den Stifterwillen zeitgemäß umzusetzen, engagiert sich die Hertie-Stiftung vor allem operativ mit eigenen Projekten, vergibt aber auch Fördergelder. Im Fokus steht dabei immer der Mensch und die konkrete Verbesserung seiner Lebensbedingungen. Die Gemeinnützige Hertie-Stiftung wurde 1974 von den Erben des Kaufhausinhabers Georg Karg ins Leben gerufen und ist heute eine der größten weltanschaulich unabhängigen und unternehmerisch ungebundenen Stiftungen in Deutschland. Der Name „Hertie“ geht zurück auf Hermann Tietz, Mitbegründer des gleichnamigen Warenhauskonzerns zum Ende des 19. Jahrhundert.
