John Whitney has diverse work experience in strategy, business development, analytics, planning, marketing, and finance. John started their career as a Senior Financial Analyst at Cherokee Nation Entertainment in 2007 and later held roles as Manager Strategic Marketing, Senior Manager Strategic Planning, and Senior Director of Strategy & Analytics. In 2016, they also worked at Cherokee Nation Hospitality Consulting, where they held similar positions. Additionally, they served as an Affiliate Instructor at St. Gregory's University from 2005 to 2017 and became an Alumni Board Member at Oklahoma State University in 2019. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Director of Strategy & Business Development at both Cherokee Nation Entertainment and Cherokee Nation Hospitality Consulting.

John Whitney's education history is as follows:

- From 1982 to 1986, they attended St. Angela Merici.

- From 1986 to 1991, they attended Jesuit High School of New Orleans and obtained their High School Diploma. John'sprogram focused on College/University Preparatory and Advanced High School/Secondary Diploma.

- From 1991 to 1995, they attended Louisiana State University, where they earned their BA in Sociology/Criminology.

- From 1995 to 1996, they studied at Oklahoma City University and obtained an MCJA (Master of Criminal Justice Administration).

- From 2000 to 2003, they pursued an MBA degree at Oklahoma State University, specializing in Finance & Management.

- In 2015, they participated in two executive development programs. The first program was at the University of Nevada, Reno, where they received a Gaming Management Certificate through the Executive Development Program on Strategic Leadership in Gaming. The second program was at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, where they completed an Executive Development Program on Strategic Leadership in Gaming.

- In the spring of 2017, they completed an Accelerated Financial Modeling course at Wall Street Prep in Dallas, Texas. This course covered topics such as Financial Statements, Discounted Cash Flows, and M&A, and focused on finance in general.
