Syed Shiraz Hyder

Medical Director, Stroke Center at CHI St. Alexius Health

Syed Shiraz Hyder has extensive experience in the medical field, starting in 1991 as the Chief of Neurology at The Aga Khan University Hospital. In this role, they oversaw clinical neurology and played a significant role in establishing a Neurology Residency program and expanding the neurology service.

In 1996, Hyder joined CHI St. Alexius Health, where they held various positions including Medical Director of the Stroke Center, Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, and Neurologist. During their time at CHI St. Alexius Health, they achieved notable milestones such as spearheading the medical center's membership in the Mayo Clinic Care Network and serving as the liaison for MCCN.

Hyder's expertise encompasses a range of areas including stroke programs, clinical neurology, teaching neurology residents and medical students, and building fully staffed neurology services. Syed Shiraz concluded their role as Vice President, Chief Medical Officer at CHI St. Alexius Health in June 2018.

Syed Shiraz Hyder attended Habib Public School from 1965 to 1972, where they pursued Pre-Medicine/Pre-Medical Studies at the High School level. Syed Shiraz then enrolled at Adamjee Science College from 1973 to 1975, completing their HSC in Pre-Medicine/Pre-Medical Studies. Hyder subsequently attended Dow Medical College from 1976 to 1982, earning their Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) degree in Medicine. Syed Shiraz furthered their medical education at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC from 1985 to 1986, completing an Internship in the Psychiatry Residency Program. Moving forward, they pursued a Neurology Residency Program at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University from 1986 to 1989. Hyder specialized in Pediatric Neurology and Stroke Fellowship at the same institution from 1989 to 1990. Lastly, they attended the USC Marshall School of Business from 2007 to 2009, obtaining a Masters in Medical Management with a focus on Medical Management-Hospital Administration.
