Amy Kovanda is an experienced educator and community organizer with a strong background in English Language Arts instruction and student achievement. Currently serving as a 7th Grade ELA Teacher at Catalyst Maria Charter School since 2018, Amy has successfully guided 60 students, with notable results where 70% met or exceeded Spring NWEA goals. Prior experiences include teaching 8th Grade ELA at Chicago Collegiate Charter School, where Amy fostered student engagement, and serving as a 9th Grade Reading Teacher at The Noble Network of Charter Schools, where students showed above-average growth in reading proficiency. As a Community Organizer for Stand for Children since July 2014, Amy manages 100 Parent Members to support educational equity, after completing the Leadership for Educational Equity Organizing Fellowship. Prior to these roles, Amy was a Title 1 Reading Teacher in Indianapolis Public Schools, where significant reading growth was achieved among secondary students. Amy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Legal Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Marian University Indianapolis.
