Mikal Elamin

Interim Chief at Chicago Heights Police Department

Mikal Elamin has a diverse and extensive work experience in law enforcement. Mikal began their career in 1996 as a Patrolman at the Chicago Heights Police Department. Mikal then transitioned to the role of Community Policing before becoming a Detective in 1999. As a Detective, they were responsible for investigating crimes and gathering evidence. In 2013, they were promoted to Detective Sergeant, where they supervised and assisted other detectives in their investigations. In 2014, they were promoted to Chief of Investigation, overseeing the operations of the Detective Bureau. In 2016, they became a Lieutenant and then Commander of Operations in 2018. Their most recent role was as Deputy Chief, which they assumed in 2020. Additionally, Elamin also worked at the Illinois State Police from 2008 to 2014 as part of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, where they supervised multiple law enforcement agencies in investigating major crimes.

Mikal Elamin completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale between 1990 and 1994. In 2015 and 2016, they pursued further education at Northwestern University, focusing on the field of study of Staff and Command. Unfortunately, no specific degree name was provided for this period.
