Brett Nelson

Brett Nelson is an experienced education professional with extensive expertise in special education administration and compliance. Currently serving as a Special Education Administrator for Chicago Public Schools since March 2021, Brett oversees instructional delivery across 28 schools, develops staff trainings, and facilitates both in-person and remote learning sessions. As a Principal Consultant for the Illinois State Board of Education since November 2017, Brett directs a significant state personnel development grant and monitors compliance across Illinois districts. Previous roles include Education Specialist with the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education and School Support Liaison with District of Columbia Public Schools, where Brett focused on professional development, compliance oversight, and educational dispute resolution. Brett holds a Master’s Degree in Public Management from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and Teaching from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
