Han Hoekzema

Han Hoekzema is an experienced animal care specialist currently working at Brookfield Zoo, focusing on the care of various bird species. This role involves daily tasks such as exhibit cleaning, record keeping, diet preparation, and behavioral observation, along with administering medication and conducting wellness checks. Previous experience includes a paid aviculture internship at the International Crane Foundation, where responsibilities included artificial insemination, behavioral observation, and training endangered Whooping crane chicks. Han also worked as a medical assistant at Arthritis Consultants, and held roles in wildlife research and microbiology testing across several organizations. Han holds a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Bonn and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
