Heather Downing

Heather Downing is an experienced animal care professional specializing in marine mammals and birds. Currently serving as the Lead Animal Care Specialist at Brookfield Zoo Chicago since August 2016, Heather has previously held positions including Senior Animal Care Specialist at the same organization and Marine Mammal and Bird Trainer at Gulf World Marine Park. Beginning their career with a seasonal role at the Chicago Zoological Society, Heather cultivated skills in animal training, behavioral enrichment, and guest interaction. Educational accomplishments include a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Purdue University, where research focused on whale conservation and DNA analysis was presented at the International Whaling Committee.
