Joanna Mendez, MPA, currently serves as the Assistant Director of Public Policy at Children's Aid since January 2025. Previously, Joanna Mendez held various roles in the New York State Senate from July 2018 to January 2025, including Senior Advisor, Chief of Staff, and Legislative Director. Joanna Mendez was also a Kriegel Fellow at the CUNY Institute for State & Local Governance from October 2022 to March 2023, focusing on leadership development for legislative staff. Other professional experiences include leading the organizing team for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's congressional campaign in 2018 and working as an Audience Development Associate at the Drug Policy Alliance. Joanna Mendez started a career in public service as a Youth Representative for the Vincentian Family at the United Nations from September 2016 to June 2017, advocating for the impoverished. Education credentials include a Master of Arts in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics from St. John's University, along with an Advanced Regents Diploma from the Bronx High School of Science.
