Arnold Mashingaidze

Arnold Mashingaidze has extensive work experience in academia, particularly in the field of crop science and invasive species research and management. Arnold served as a Professor and Director of the Invasive Species Research and Management Unit at Chinhoyi University of Technology since May 2012. In this role, they provided leadership in a research program focused on finding sustainable strategies and solutions to the problem of invasive species in Zimbabwe, starting with water hyacinth.

Prior to their position at Chinhoyi University, Arnold worked at the University of Zimbabwe, where they held various roles. From January 2005 to April 2007, they served as the Chairman of the Crop Science Department, responsible for leadership and administration. During this time, they also led a team in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of conservation agriculture in northern districts of Zimbabwe in collaboration with ICRISAT and FAO Regional Office.

Before becoming Chairman, Arnold worked as a Senior Lecturer in the Crop Science Department starting in 1991. Their responsibilities included teaching, research, community service, and farmer participatory research projects, funded by DFID and Rockefeller. Arnold was also involved in monitoring and evaluating NGO projects, curriculum design, and review.

Arnold Mashingaidze earned their BSc in Agriculture (Crop Science) from the University of Zimbabwe between 1981 and 1983. Arnold then pursued their MS in Crop Production and Physiology at Iowa State University from 1988 to 1990. Finally, Arnold completed their PhD in Crop Weed Ecology at Wageningen University & Research from 1998 to 2004.
