Daniel Klein, staff attorney in Choate’s Intellectual Property Group, is primarily involved in training, knowledge management and procedures related to U.S. and international patent practice. Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Klein practiced for approximately 16 years as a patent attorney in both law firm and in-house settings.
His experience as outside counsel includes creating and managing global patent portfolios for proprietary pharmaceutical companies as well as performing freedom-to-operate and invalidity analyses for generic pharmaceutical companies in the context of ANDA submissions. He also has experience as in-house counsel for three global pharmaceutical companies managing all aspects of intellectual property for drug candidate programs throughout various phases of research and development, as well as counseling R&D and business units on issues relating to IP, including Hatch-Waxman and product lifecycle management, performing due diligence investigations and assisting with licenses and acquisitions.
