Professor Carsten E Palme is an otolaryngology (ENT) head and neck surgeon and clinical professor in surgery and joint Head of Specialty/ENT at the University of Sydney. Professor Palme holds clinical appointments at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Westmead Hospital, Sydney. He is also a visiting medical officer at Westmead Private Hospital, Macquarie Private Hospital and Norwest Private Hospital.

After attending medical school at the University of Sydney, Professor Palme completed four years of advanced training in Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2002.

Professor Palme completed post-training fellowships in the American Head and Neck Society Head and Neck Oncology Program, University of Toronto, Canada and in Laser Head and Neck Surgery, University of Göttingen, Germany.

Professor Palme is the inaugural recipient in 2009 of the Chris O’Brien Travelling Fellowship Award of the American Head and Neck Society. In 2011 Professor Palme was awarded the Coman Kennedy Laser Scholarship and in 2012 Professor Palme was included in the ‘Best Doctors’ Australian and New Zealand database.

Professor Palme’s clinical interests include head and neck cancer, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, salivary gland disorders, advanced non melanoma skin cancer and minimally invasive surgery including voice and laser surgery.

Professor Palme has a strong interest in research, education and training. He is a founding director of Head & Neck Cancer Australia. Professor Palme has trained many national and international surgeons. For his publication list please click here.

Professor Palme is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Head and Neck Surgery and the American Head and Neck Surgery Society.
