Fernando Villarruel

Fernando Villarruel is an accomplished Chief Architect at Ciena since January 2019, with a robust background in architecture and engineering from notable positions at Cisco and Scientific Atlanta. Villarruel served in various roles at Cisco from 2007 to December 2018, including Architect in the Office of the CTO and Business Development Manager. Prior experience includes serving as a Senior System Engineer at Scientific Atlanta, Project Manager at Construction Cad Solutions, and Research Scientist at the University of Chicago. Fernando holds an M.S. in Physics from the University of Chicago and dual B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Physics from California State University, completed in 1998.
