Rafael Murrieta-Cid

Senior Research Scientist at CIMAT

Rafael Murrieta-Cid is a Senior Research Scientist at CIMAT since March 2006, specializing in robotics with a focus on robot motion planning. In addition to research, Rafael advises PhD and master students and teaches robotics courses. Holding the position of "Investigador Titular D," Rafael is a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers at rank III and the Mexican Academy of Sciences. Previous experience includes a visiting researcher role in the Computer Science Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a directorship at the Centro de Investigacion en Mecatronica at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where Rafael also engaged in similar research and teaching activities. Rafael's early career included postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois and Stanford University, contributing to sensor-based robot motion planning and the Tactical Mobile Robotics project. Rafael earned a PhD in Robotics from ENSEEIHT and holds master's and bachelor's degrees from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
