Steven Wieting

Chief Investment Strategist & Chief Economist, Citi Private Bank at Citigroup

Steven Wieting is the Chief Investment Strategist and Chief Economist at the Private Bank, heading the global strategy team which formulates the macro investment views across all regions and asset classes. He chairs the Global Investment Committee, which sets the tactical asset allocation.

In his capacity as Chief Economist, Steven provides detailed macroeconomic analysis and advice across regions, utilizing Citi’s global platform and third-party research to discover and define how clients can understand and invest in a complex world.

Before joining the Private Bank, Steven served as Citi Investment Research’s head of economics for the US institutional equities business. He was responsible for advising the firm’s institutional and government clients globally on macroeconomic developments, forecasts and policy analysis. Steven has published extensively on demographic and policy challenges with a focus on the implications for long-term asset market performance. He has provided evidence for government policymakers assessing financial reforms.

During his time at Citi Research, Steven analyzed credit, commodity and foreign exchange market influences while providing the firm’s US corporate earnings forecasts and macro level equity market insights.

He was also economic advisor to the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Global Investment Committee until early 2013 and was a voting member of predecessor Asset Allocation Committees at Salomon Smith Barney.

Steven was awarded an MS in Quantitative Economics at Bernard M Baruch College and has also acquired credits towards a PhD in Economics at the City University Graduate Center.
