Eric Liu has a diverse work experience in various roles and positions. Eric co-founded Citizen University in 2013 and is currently serving as the CEO. In 2014, Liu became the Executive Director of the Citizenship & American Identity Program at The Aspen Institute, a role they held until 2023. Before that, they co-founded True Patriot Network in 2007, where they worked until 2014. Prior to their entrepreneurial endeavors, Liu held executive positions at RealNetworks from 2000 to 2002. Eric also served in the White House as Deputy Assistant to the President in 1999 and as a Speechwriter from 1993 to 1994. In addition, Liu worked as a political commentator for MSNBC from 1996 to 1998 and as a Legislative Assistant for the United States Senate from 1991 to 1993. Eric started their career as a Research Assistant for the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in 1990.
Eric Liu earned their BA in History from Yale University, graduating in 1990. Eric then went on to attend Harvard Law School, where they obtained their JD between 1994 and 1999.
