David McLay has a diverse work experience in the medical writing and healthcare field. David currently holds the position of Senior Medical Writer at The Curry Rockefeller Group, LLC since November 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Freelance medical writer/editor specializing in translating complex medical information for varied audiences from 2003 to January 2022. From April 2021 to November 2021, they served as a Senior Medical Writer at integrated medhealth communication North America.

In terms of research experience, they worked as a Research Trainee at CAMH from May 2019 to April 2020. David also contributed to the HIV community as a Member of the Community Advisory Committee at the CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network from April 2011 to March 2019, where they provided input on research agendas, reviewed clinical trial protocols, and engaged in knowledge exchange within communities.

From October 2010 to February 2019, David held multiple roles at CATIE, including Associate Director of Health Information Resources and Manager of Publications Development. Prior to that, they worked as a Managing Editor and Writer/Editor at CATIE from 2006 to 2010, where they contributed to publications and managed translation and web-production projects.

David McLay has a comprehensive education history. David earned their Bachelor of Science degree in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Guelph in 1989, and went on to complete their Ph.D. in Biology, with a focus on Cell Biology, Reproductive Biology, and Molecular Biology, at McGill University from 1994 to 2002.

In 2013, David obtained a Certificate in Knowledge Translation from the Learning Institute at The Hospital for Sick Children. Then, in 2017, they pursued a Management Certificate at Hincks Dellcrest Institute.

David continued their education by obtaining a Master's degree in Health Informatics from the University of Toronto, which they completed from 2018 to 2020. In addition to their formal education, they have also acquired several additional certifications from Camp Tech Inc, including Illustrator for Beginners, DIY Graphic Design with Canva, and HTML and CSS for Beginners, all in 2017.
