Fernando Capablanca is Managing Director at Whitecap Consulting Group.
Fernando is a long-time leader in the banking industry and since 2010 has worked at Whitecap Consulting Group LLC, a company created to provide consulting services to the financial industry.
He began his banking career at the Chase Manhattan Bank New York in 1964 and has served as CEO and General Manager of Miami Agency offices of The Bank of Tokyo, Banco Exterior de los Andes y España (Spain), and Banco de Crédito Inversiones Chile (Bci Chile).
Between 2013 and 2016, he served on the Board of Directors of Ocean Bank in Miami and was a member of the Risk Management Committee, Audit Committee, Ethics Committee, Loan Committee, and ALCO Committee.
Fernando was also president and CEO of Union Credit Bank, a local community bank, until 2010.
In 2007, he was made Chairman of the International Bankers Advisory Board of CSBS and was awarded the prestigious McCormick Award for Excellence in International Bank Supervision.
Mr. Capablanca was Vice Chairman of the Bankers Advisory Board of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) in Washington DC, a position to which he was appointed in 1992 by the Comptroller of the State of Florida.
In addition, Fernando has been President of the Cuban Banking Study Group Inc., a Florida non-profit since 1994, and Knight of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. He is currently the Director in charge of the works of the Order in Cuba. He is also a former president of the Florida International Bankers Association and currently serves on its Board of Directors.
He has written several articles for professional magazines and is the author of “Small Business Investment Companies” at the Library of Congress. He has lectured at both Florida International University and the University of Miami. He graduated from New York University and from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business.
