John Barker

Strategy & Innovation Deputy Director at City of Aspen

John Barker began their work experience in 2010 at the Aspen Art Museum, where they served as a Development Officer. In this role, they facilitated the growth of corporate sponsorship initiatives and implemented a development strategy to increase support and donations.

In 2016, Barker joined the City of Aspen as the Lead Permit Coordinator. John was responsible for managing the permitting process and spearheaded efforts to improve review times and transparency. Their work resulted in a significant reduction in major permit review times.

In 2021, Barker became a Senior Strategy Consultant at the City of Aspen, where they focused on strategic planning and program management. John managed the City's Compass program and oversaw the grants program to maximize community benefit and equity.

John Barker obtained a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Colorado College. John also earned certifications in Project Management, including the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) in September 2022 and the Project Management Professional (PMP) in 2020.
