Ron Fowler has served as a City Councilman since 1992, and has lived in the Blue Springs community since 1986. Councilman Fowler is the longest serving councilmember and received an honorary pin in April 2017 to commemorate 25 years of service. He describes himself as a fiscal conservative and works to maintain a balance in City expenditures with a focus on infrastructure. Ron is an advocate for open and transparent governance and is grateful to residents for his ability to serve the Blue Springs community.
As a 31-year Blue Springs resident, Fowler has served this community in several ways including: Former Blue Springs Mayor ProTem, a member of the Blue Springs Board of Aldermen, Blue Springs Planning Commission, Parks Board, Citizens Public Safety Board, Solid Waste Committee to name a few. Ron approved the formation of the original Charter Commission which generated the Blue Springs City Charter, their City’s governing document.
Ron values City’s partnerships with the nationally recognized school districts serving residents – the Blue Springs, Lee’s Summit and Grain Valley School Districts. Understanding the vital role education has in their community, Ron has been involved with the Blue Springs School of Economics which educates youth on commerce, economics, and functioning independently in the real world.
Fowler is a strong advocate for their police force and was one of the council members to advocate for and approve the creation of the Blue Springs Police Department’s Youth Outreach Unit, currently known as the Community and Youth Outreach Unit. Councilman Fowler is a graduate of the BSPD Citizen’s Police Academy and currently serves as the Council liaison to the Citizen’s Public Safety Advisory Board.
Ron has supported development and redevelopment efforts in Blue Springs throughout the years, most notably the introduction of Bill #2451 authorizing the purchase the land and build the first two phases of Adams Dairy Parkway. This area is home to the Adams Dairy Landing Shopping Center providing retail and dining options for patrons, and employment opportunities for residents.
Fowler supports developments that bring quality employment opportunities to Blue Springs while addressing blight along major corridors. He is also mindful of projects that negatively impact surrounding property values or require down-zoning.
A University of Missouri-Kansas City alumni, Ron has worked at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant since 1984 and currently holds the title of Mission Assurance Manager – 7.62mm & .50 Cal.
