Laura Alves has a diverse background in strategic initiatives and sustainability, currently serving as the Manager of Strategic Initiatives in the Office of Food Justice for the City of Boston since December 2019, while also holding the title of Zero Waste Coordinator in the Environment Department. Prior experience includes contracting roles at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, the Rhode Island Food Policy Council, Northbound Ventures, LLC, Trader Joe's, and GBH, as well as significant tenure at IKEA as the Marketing & Public Relations Manager and Sustainability Coordinator. Laura's career began in design, with positions such as Product Designer at Alan Ball Industrial Design and InDepth Design Consultancy, and Graphic Designer at Dober Lidsky Mathey. Laura holds a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design from Syracuse University and completed the Sustainable Communities Initiative, Community Leaders Program at Rhode Island College.
