In its first 125 years, Camarillo grew slowly, but the end of World War II and construction of U.S. Route 101 in the mid-1950s hastened the pace of development. In 1964, with a population of approximately 10,000, the City of Camarillo was incorporated under the council-manager form of government. Camarillo remains a preferred business location for high-tech, bio-tech, retail, manufacturing and communications companies.
