Kurt MacDonald

Fire Chief at CITY OF COURTENAY

Kurt MacDonald has extensive work experience in the fire department, specifically with the City of Courtenay and Courtenay Fire Department. Kurt held various roles, including Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Inspector. As Deputy Fire Chief, they were responsible for overseeing prevention and operation activities. Kurt achieved the Executive Chief Fire Officer professional designation in May 2020. As a Fire Inspector, they conducted inspections of commercial properties and performed office administration duties and fire suppression. Kurt also played a role in public education and the development of computer-based pre-fire planning. In 2021, Kurt MacDonald became the Fire Chief for the City of Courtenay.

Kurt MacDonald attended GP Vanier Senior Secondary from 1987 to 1989, but did not obtain a degree or specify a field of study. Later, from 2009 to 2014, they studied at the Justice Institute of British Columbia and achieved a degree in Fire Officer Four, which follows the NFPA 1021 Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications in 2009.
