Heather Schafer

Heather Schafer, GISP, serves as the Geographic Information Systems Manager for the City of Des Moines since November 2015, overseeing a team that develops and maintains an enterprise-wide GIS platform to support city operations and decision-making. Schafer coordinates the Des Moines Area Regional GIS Partnership, facilitating GIS data sharing and collaboration with local governments and agencies for public safety initiatives. Prior experience includes roles as GIS Analyst and Acting GIS Manager at the City of Des Moines and GIS Analyst and Asset Management Technician at Boone County GIS, focusing on enterprise GIS program development and asset management. Heather Schafer holds a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems and a Master’s degree in Natural Resources from the University of Missouri, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from the same institution.
