Gary Brown is an accomplished leader with extensive experience in public service, currently serving as the Director and CEO of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department since January 2010. Previously appointed as Chief Operating Officer by Mayor Mike Duggan and during the historic bankruptcy under Kevyn Orr, Gary has made significant contributions to city governance, including serving as Detroit City Council President Pro-Tem where responsibilities included chairing the Public Health and Safety Committee and the Veteran's Task Force. With a background in law enforcement as Deputy Chief of the Detroit Police Department for 26 years, Gary has expertise in community policing and has acted as an expert witness in in-custody death lawsuits. Gary holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Wayne State University and a Master of Science in Inter-Disciplinary Technology from Eastern Michigan University.
