Rochelle Riley has a diverse and extensive work experience. Rochelle started their career as a reporter at The Washington Post in 1987. Rochelle then worked at The Dallas Morning News from 1989 to 1992, where they were an assistant city editor and later became a senior writer. In 1992, they joined The Courier-Journal as the deputy managing editor, and later became an associate editor and columnist until 2000. From 2000 to 2019, Rochelle worked as a columnist at the Detroit Free Press, where they provided commentary on social, political, and cultural issues. In 2019, they transitioned to become the Director of Arts and Culture for the City of Detroit.
Rochelle Riley has a BA in Journalism from the UNC School of Media and Journalism. In 2007 to 2008, they were a Knight Wallace Journalism Fellow at the University of Michigan, specializing in Film and Building Web Communities.
