Andres Rangel is an experienced public administration professional currently serving as the Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Duarte since August 2023. Previously, Rangel held the role of Assistant to the City Manager and Management Analyst at the City of Cudahy from January 2022 to August 2023 and April 2021 to January 2022, respectively. Rangel began a career in public service as a Junior Deputy City Clerk and Administrative Assistant at the City of Cudahy from March 2017 to April 2021. Additionally, Rangel worked as a Student Mentor for Long Beach BLAST from January 2016 to February 2019. Rangel holds a Master of Public Administration from USC Sol Price School of Public Policy and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from California State University, Long Beach.

Duarte is a general law city under a council/manager form of government, employing 42 full-time and 150 part-time employees. At 7 square miles, Duarte is home to a diverse community of approximately 22,000 residents and the City of Hope, the leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. The City is ranked as one of the San Gabriel Valley’s safest communities and provides residents and visitors 54 miles of walkable, well-maintained streets and over 52 acres of open space and 14 public parks. Duarte, an ethnically diverse community, was also recognized in 2014 by the National League of Cities with a first place City Cultural Diversity Award. Brief History In 1841, the Governor of Alta California granted former Mexican Corporal Andres Duarte and his wife were granted 7,000 acres of land and named it Rancho Azusa de Duarte. The Gabrielino Indians once inhabited the land that is now known as the City of Duarte. Decades later, on August 22, 1957 the City of Duarte and the Duarte Unified School District were formed.
