Prior experience includes serving as an Associate Planner for the City of Rosemead from 1999 to 2000 and holding positions as Administrative Assistant in the City Manager's Office and Assistant Planner at the City of Pico Rivera from 1997 to 1999. Duarte, an ethnically diverse community, was also recognized in 2014 by the National League of Cities with a first place City Cultural Diversity Award. Brief History In 1841, the Governor of Alta California granted former Mexican Corporal Andres Duarte and his wife were granted 7,000 acres of land and named it Rancho Azusa de Duarte. The Gabrielino Indians once inhabited the land that is now known as the City of Duarte. Decades later, on August 22, 1957 the City of Duarte and the Duarte Unified School District were formed.
